Shawn Robek, DC, ART
About
Dr. Robek
Dr. Shawn Robek is originally from upstate New York, where
throughout his upbringing he was active in community, academics,
and excelled in sports. Shawn was a pre-med student at Cortland
State College. Upon graduation from New York Chiropractic
College in March of 1999, Dr. Robek moved to California where he
ran offices in Chula Vista, and Mira Mesa. In 2002 his services
were requested in Seattle, Washington where Shawn opened two
offices inside health and fitness clubs. However in 2004, his
love for Southern California brought him back to San Diego.
Dr. Robek would like to bring an understanding to the benefits
of chiropractic care, as it is designed to identify structural
problems in the body. When under physical stress, either from
daily activities, exercise and sports, or a specific trauma to
the body, like an automobile accident, unnecessary problems
arise. These troubles can range from pain, stiffness, to altered
function and decreased range of motion. Chiropractic is designed
to identify these structural problems and make corrections to
the body which will relieve this pain and altered functions.
This is accomplished by working with the spine, extremities and
musculature of the body, with the common goal of restoring and
maintaining optimal performance of the body.
Dr. Robek has a love for athletics, fitness and exercise, which
he conveys into his work. His philosophy is that health care is
a combined effort between doctor and patient. Dr. Robek’s care
extends outside of his office, making sure his patients know and
understand how to take care of themselves within their everyday
lives. This concern is continued after the patient’s care is
completed. He emphasizes that during the structural corrective
process and after completing the correction, it is necessary to
strengthen and stabilize that region to prevent exacerbations or
re-occurrences of the past problem. This is accomplished through
injury specific rehabilitation using weight resistance training
and or physical therapy exercises. Dr. Robek has created a
spinal care class, which focuses on lower back stabilization,
core strength, and postural correction which every patient is
encouraged to attend.

Cole
Ellis, DC, ART
About
Dr. Ellis
Dr. Cole Ellis, originally from Northern California, was
active in high school and college. After receiving his Bachelor
of Science degree from Sacramento State University he attended
the Palmer College of Chiropractic West located San Jose,
California. Here his inherent interest in sports led him to
specialize in the care and prevention of athletic injuries.
At Palmer West, Cole was involved in the sports council where he
was ultimately introduced to the Active Release Technique, a
soft - tissue injury management system. The philosophy behind
ART is to release the myofascial adhesion or scar tissue, which
can cause pain and improper function where it has accumulated
within muscles, fascia, tendons and ligaments. While ART remains
virtually unknown to the public, many professional athletes rely
on it to heal their own soft-tissue injuries. The NFL, NHL, and
Major League Baseball have begun contracting ART practitioners
to keep their players healthy (Runners World). To gain further
experience, Cole has volunteered and provided care at two
Ironman Triathlon's (Kona Ironman 2003, and Coeur d'Alene, ID
Ironman 2006) where he treated several of the tri-athletes as
well as studying the techniques from other elite ART providers.
His philosophy in treating patients uniquely emphasizes
education and active patient involvement. He believes this can
decrease pain at a faster pace, restore function and
independence, as well as minimize the number of visits to the
clinic. With the use of Chiropractic adjustments, which are
employed to restore proper joint function, in conjunction with
Active Release Techniques to break up restrictive scar tissue,
as well as activity therapies to strengthen deconditioned
muscles the goal of a healthy body can be obtained . Cole’s
practice and philosophies are rooted within the teachings of
Gary Jacob, Robin Mckenzie, Mike Leahy, and Craig Liebenson. He
is grateful for the insights they have provided.
Dr. Ellis is also the owner of www.runningdynamics.com, a
running group based in San Diego, CA.
